Why is my SD card empty in Windows File Explorer?
Short answer
Often hidden files or a wrong folder, not loss: turn on hidden items in the View menu and confirm the drive letter belongs to the right card. If the camera files are really gone, do not run CHKDSK, since it can rewrite damaged exFAT entries. Make a sector image or start a read-only scan instead.

Work out what actually disappeared
Drive letters are reassigned as devices come and go, so the letter you remember may now point at a different card or a card reader slot that is empty. If the letter is right, the empty view comes from hidden attributes on the camera folders, from a subfolder you are not in, or from exFAT entries that were released.
Hidden files, a wrong folder, a damaged directory, or deleted exFAT entries can produce the same empty view.
Check the last known path, trash and backups without writing to the original device.
