Our recovery engine is entirely our own work, written from the ground up for footage from cameras and recorders, not for documents. It knows the containers and raw formats they write to the card, and looks for them specifically.
File Recovery Hero was updated in 2026: a clean interface and a straightforward workflow from selecting your memory card to a verified export. Built for the everyday work of photographers and videographers, with dedicated detection profiles for Sony and Canon.
The engine does not rely on a single match. Deleted file entries, original sizes, related data blocks and typical video, audio or image signatures are cross-checked against each other. The results list separates completed structural checks from finds that still need to be reviewed; the export is followed by FFprobe and a full FFmpeg run.

The File Recovery Hero engine reads exFAT, NTFS and FAT16/FAT32 structures, recognises media structures and reassembles data that belongs together. That way it finds recordings even when Explorer, Finder and camera show nothing at all.

Internal structural check, FFprobe and a full FFmpeg run separate confirmed exports from pipe rescues. Files that have not been confirmed are visibly given the addition .UNVERIFIED.

Every file extension has its own switch in the app. Surviving file records are checked according to their format; the deep scan only reports finds whose file boundary can be determined reliably.

Before the first scan.
Can File Recovery Hero rescue any deleted file?+
No. If data blocks have been overwritten or essential container information is missing, a complete rescue is technically impossible. File Recovery Hero displays this uncertainty openly.
Can I test the app before purchasing?+
Yes. Downloading and scanning are free: you see the complete list of results and whether your recordings could be recovered. Only rescuing the files is unlocked by the license key from your purchase email.
Why does the destination have to be on a different drive?+
If rescued files end up back on the same memory card, they can overwrite any recordings that can still be found. That's why File Recovery Hero only saves them to the internal storage or another drive.
Does File Recovery Hero work with Canon and Sony?+
Yes. There are manufacturer-specific profiles and additional universal recognition for common media containers. Support will be gradually expanded.
