Often some chapters simply stayed behind: an import can stop mid-sequence or skip segments, so compare the destination against the full numbered list on the card. Check the trash and catalog folder next. Only if chapters are gone from the card as well, scan it read-only, and rejoin segments once every number is accounted for.

Work out what actually disappeared
Transfer tools work through a folder in order and can stop on a read error, a full disk or an unmounted card. Because each chapter is an independent MP4, the ones already copied open normally and hide the gap. If the tool cleared the card afterwards, the missing numbers were deleted from the source before they ever arrived.
Move, rename, catalog and delete-after-import steps can fail at different moments and leave source and destination in different states. For split MP4 recording, this matters because long recordings may be divided by device rules and require every segment in the right order
