Insta360 INSV files missing: recover the files safely
Can File Recovery Hero find deleted INSV originals?
Short answer
Yes, deleted INSV originals and LRV previews can be selected in a read-only scan of a supported, stably readable card such as exFAT and exported unchanged if their data remains. INSV validation was tested with synthetic files, not camera originals; the app does not stitch 360-degree footage or guarantee playback or completeness. Check results in Insta360 Studio.
The situation
Deleted INSV originals or LRV previews are missing from a readable camera card.
File Recovery Hero can find deleted INSV originals and LRV previews by their extensions during a read-only scan of a stable, readable exFAT card, then export the files unchanged. This is file recovery, not 360-degree processing: completeness and playback must be checked separately in Insta360 Studio.
01 / Diagnose
Work out what actually disappeared
Both apps now list INSV and LRV as selectable scan types, and validate INSV as ISO-BMFF with a recognized, correctly sized Insta360 trailer. A scan can export a candidate unchanged, but it does not stitch the separate lens streams or establish that a real camera capture is complete or playable.
Since version 0.7.6, both apps list INSV and LRV for scanning; INSV is validated as ISO-BMFF with a recognized, correctly sized Insta360 trailer.
Check the last known path, trash and backups without writing to the original device.
02 / Protect the source
Preserve the best recovery chance
- 1
Take the card out of the camera and stop recording with it, so the INSV extents are not overwritten while you look for a route.
- 2
Check the phone app, its cache and any cloud backup, because captures downloaded for editing often still exist outside the camera card.
- 3
Run a read-only scan on the readable exFAT card with both INSV and LRV selected, then export any results to a different drive.
- 4
Open exported INSV and LRV files in Insta360 Studio to check them; do not write results back to the source card.
Do not treat an empty result as proof that the footage is gone, and do not format the card or keep filming while you are deciding. Stop using the card to avoid overwriting data.
03 / Choose the method
Match the tool to the source
For stable, readable exFAT, NTFS and FAT16/FAT32 or uncompressed IMG, DD, RAW and BIN images.
Unconfirmed exports are marked .UNVERIFIED.
The apps include INSV and LRV in the selectable scan types and validate INSV as ISO-BMFF while accounting for a recognized Insta360 trailer of the expected length. Evidence is limited to synthetic tests: no original camera files or Windows device test. Recovery exports files unchanged; the app does not stitch 360-degree footage or promise playback or completeness. Check results in Insta360 Studio; the scan requires a supported, stably readable file system such as exFAT.
04 / Verify
Check the recovered content, not just its name
File Recovery Hero's scan result confirms only that a candidate passed its format check; it does not prove that real camera footage is complete or playable. Open exported files in Insta360 Studio and assess them there. The synthetic app tests did not include camera originals.
Keep the source until two verified copies exist. One working preview is not enough.

FAQ
Questions about this recovery case
Can Insta360 exFAT microSDXC card be recovered in this situation?+
File Recovery Hero can find deleted INSV originals and LRV previews by their extensions during a read-only scan of a stable, readable exFAT card, then export the files unchanged. This is file recovery, not 360-degree processing: completeness and playback must be checked separately in Insta360 Studio. The result still depends on what remains readable on the source.
What should I avoid before scanning?+
Do not treat an empty result as proof that the footage is gone, and do not format the card or keep filming while you are deciding.
Does scanning write to my memory card?+
Your memory card is only read. Nothing is saved to it.
How do I know whether the result is complete?+
File Recovery Hero's scan result confirms only that a candidate passed its format check; it does not prove that real camera footage is complete or playable.
